When life is tearing things apart, Jesus is bringing people together!

In this message, Pastor Mikey continues the  @EagleLifeChurch  Advent series “Christmas Together” from the Biblical accounts of the first Christmas. In this series, you will learn how to get and stay connected in a world that is tearing people apart.

In today’s sermon, you will learn how to come together with other generations to give each other support. You will learn how to take the journey across the generation gap.

God has support for you too. It will include coming together with others. Join us as we learn to celebrate Christmas together for support.

But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.

Christmas Together for Support

SCRIPTURE: Galatians 4:4-5; Luke 1:39–56; Luke 1:36-37; Proverbs 27:17(ESV)

In those days Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a town in Judah, and she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth.

And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the baby leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, and she exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! And why is this granted to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me?

For behold, when the sound of your greeting came to my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.”

Luke 1:39-45 (ESV)

And Mary said,

“My soul magnifies the Lord,

47  and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,

48  for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant.

For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed;

49  for he who is mighty has done great things for me,

and holy is his name.

50  And his mercy is for those who fear him

from generation to generation.

51  He has shown strength with his arm;

he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts;

52  he has brought down the mighty from their thrones

and exalted those of humble estate;

53  he has filled the hungry with good things,

and the rich he has sent away empty.

54  He has helped his servant Israel,

in remembrance of his mercy,

55  as he spoke to our fathers,

to Abraham and to his offspring forever.”

56 And Mary remained with her about three months and returned to her home.

Together for Purpose

November 20, 2022 by Brad Murphy

This entry is part 1 of 4 in the series Christmas Together

Week 1 – Christmas Together

DIGITAL BULLETIN 27 November 2022

When life is tearing things apart, Jesus is bringing people together!

In this message, Pastor Brad begins our advent series “Christmas Together,” from the New Testament events surrounding the first Christmas.

In this first advent sermon, you will learn how Jesus brings people together for a purpose. When Mary became pregnant just before their wedding, Joseph was justified to divorce her quietly. But God had a greater plan. God had a purpose that only Mary and Joseph could fulfill together.

God has a purpose for you too. It will include working together with others. Join us as we learn to celebrate Christmas together for a purpose.

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.

Christmas Together for Purpose

SCRIPTURE: Matthew 1:18-25; Luke 1:26-38; Galatians 4:4-5 (ESV)

Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. 19 And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. 20 But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet:

23  “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
and they shall call his name Immanuel”(which means, God with us).

24 When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife, 25 but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus.

Matthew 1:18-25 (ESV)
  1. Before Coming Together
  2. Resolve to Divorce Quietly
  3. Called Him Jesus

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Colossians 3:15-17 (ESV, emphasis added)

  2. Love & Respect your Spouse Second (Part 1)
  3. Parent & Discipline your Children Third
  4. Labor with Sincerity & Justice at Work Fourth
  5. Coming next week in Part 3
  6. Coming next week in Part 3

Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. 19 Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them. 20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. 21 Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged. 22 Bondservants, obey in everything those who are your earthly masters, not by way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. 23 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. 25 For the wrongdoer will be paid back for the wrong he has done, and there is no partiality.

4 Masters, treat your bondservants justly and fairly, knowing that you also have a Master in heaven.
