One Day to Feed the World

November 3, 2013 by Brad Murphy

Remember the Poor

We take the opportunity every year to open our hearts of compassion and give generously to Remember the Poor on the last Sunday of November.

This year we will be bringing canned foods for Eagle Food Bank, Christmas shoe boxes for Native American Ministries, and money for Convoy of Hope.

ONE DAY_Color_Blue-BlackONE DAY to Feed the World is Convoy of Hope’s annual campaign to transform the everyday lives of kids around the world.

Playing, good times with friends, learning, and dreaming big dreams are the hallmarks of a great childhood — nutritious food fuels such childhoods. Our desire is to see kids lives transformed as we promote healthy children, and community, sustainability and development.

It’s simple — Work ONE DAY, give ONE DAY’S wage to help provide food, clean water and other life-giving supplies.

One Day to Feed the World

How to Give?

  • Bring your canned food to Eagle LifeChurch on Sunday or during office hours Tuesday & Thursday 10am-5pm, any time during the month of November.
  • Bring a Christmas shoe box, wrapped and ready (instructions here), to Eagle LifeChurch anytime during the month of November. Please put $5 per box, for shipping, in offering envelope.
  • Bring your check or cash to worship service, Sunday, November 24, and see how your small gift of one day can change everyday for a starving child.
  • You can also give online, by making Eagle LifeChurch a vendor on your bank Bill Pay System, account number One Day.

Infuse | Self-Control

October 29, 2013 by Brad Murphy

This entry is part 9 of 9 in the series Infuse | Galatians 5:22-24

We are compelled by God’s LOVE and the FREEDOM offered in Jesus to infuse our relationships with the mind of Christ.  As the Spirit of God directs our life, we take on the CHARACTER of the Spirit.  This Fall we will ask God to INFUSE in us the love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control of Christ through the Holy Spirit!

Listen to Infuse | Self-Control
October 27, 2013 | Pastor Mark Bridgewater
Galatians 5:22-24, Galatians 5-6

Are you in Control or out of Control?

It’s not a popular message, and when given to those not controlled by the Spirit, it can leave a sour taste in the mouth.  This week Pastor Mark Bridgewater finishes our sereis, Infuse: The Fruit of the Spirit, with Self-Control.  Denying self and following Christ is the call of God for every person.  Jesus has made a way for our rescue from sin and given us freedom to walk a life controlled by the Spirit.  In this message you will be challenged and encouraged to open your ears to God and allow him to lead you with his gentle, yet disciplined voice.

Those who want to impress people by means of the flesh are trying to compel you to be circumcised. The only reason they do this is to avoid being persecuted for the cross of Christ. Not even those who are circumcised keep the law,yet they want you to be circumcised that they may boast about your circumcision in the flesh. May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. Neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything; what counts is the new creation. Peace and mercy to all who follow this rule—to the Israel of God.
– Galatians 6:12-16 (NIV)

Follow Pastor Mark’s outline as you listen:

  • Judgement is Coming
  • Good vs Evil
  • Who Controls You?
  • The Christ Empowered Life

Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’
– Jesus, Matthew 7:21-23 (NIV)

Are Pentecostal & Charismatic Leaders False Prophets | Strange Fire Response

October 25, 2013 by Brad Murphy

This past week, Pastor John MacArthur, noted theologian and local church pastor at Grace Community Church, Sun Valley, CA, received quite a bit of media attention when he called out Pentecostal & Charismatic church leaders as false prophets.

What is a Pentecostal or Charismatic?

A so-called Pentecostal or Charismatic person is, a follower of Christ, who believes in, and practices the manifest gifts of the Spirit as described in the Bible’s New Testament book, The Acts of the Apostles.  They follow the teachings of  the Apostle Paul, in the book of 1 Corinthians 12-14 , about how these gifts should be used in the congregation.

Called Out

The leaders John MacArthur mentions by name during his recent Strange Fire conference tend to be the more controversial leaders of large Prosperity Gospel churches.  These are not representative of the whole Pentecostal or Charismatic movement, and these same leaders are often challenged by biblical teaching from other movement leaders.

Response

In response to Pastor MacArthur’s strong words and direct challenge to the gifts of the Spirit, I wanted to re-post a two part sermon I preached earlier this year at Eagle LifeChurch, on the Manifestation Gifts of 1 Corinthians 12-14.  Please listen so that you will be prepared to answer any questions you may get from friends, co-workers, or family who may have questions during this time of media attention.

Infuse | Gentleness

Join-Up in Gentleness

Monty Roberts learned that the way to train a horse was through violence and dominance.  As a boy he watched his dad tame many wild horses.  But as Monty grew up  he wondered if there wasn’t a better way.  After years of observing horses in the wild, Monty developed a gentle method of taming called Join Up®.  His process leads a horse to become a Willing Partner with its rider instead of fearful subject of their rider.  Through his gentle and loving method many horse lovers have come to enjoy riding their Willing Partner better than any horse tamed another way.

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.
– Proverbs 15:1

Throughout the Bible God reveals through His humility and gentleness the lesson that Monty learned isn’t just true of horses, but of people too.  Saint Paul instructs the church to “Let your gentleness be known to all. The Lord is near.”

Through this lesson, Join-Up in Gentleness, we learn to allow the Spirit of God to infuse the character of Christ’s gentleness into our daily lives.  Gentleness is an outer garment that believers wear in every relationship.  It isn’t meant to be an inner garment that only those who are closest to us experience, it should be the first thing people experience when they meet us.

Let your Gentleness be known to all. The Lord is near.
– Colossians 3:12
