What is the rapture and what does it mean to me?

September 22, 2011 by Brad Murphy

What is the rapture and what does it mean to me?

Much has been written and discussed about the rapture of the church.  Of course, there has always been that confusion that has arisen between the timing of the rapture and His second coming.  They are two different events, probably separating by a period of seven years.  What about the rapture?  What is it, and what does it mean to me?  These and other questions have been asked down through the centuries.  Paul probably says it best in 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18; “For the Lord Himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the call of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God.  First, all the Christians who have died will rise from their graves.  Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and remain with Him forever.  So comfort and encourage each other with these words.” This even is approaching this world very quickly. The world is about to lose several millions of people.  The Christians will be caught up in the air.  There will be incredible confusion here on earth when the rapture does take place!  For the Christian it will be a time of great joy!  This is what we’ve been waiting for! In closing, let me quote the last verse above, “So comfort and encourage each other with these words.”  And, as the Apostle John wrote as he finished his last book, “Amen, come Lord Jesus!” (Rev. 22:20).

How is your love scale doing?

September 15, 2011 by Brad Murphy

How is your love scale doing?

The Bible tells us that “God so loved the world that He gave His only son.”  (John 3:16). Paul also tells us in 1 Corinthians 13, the Love chapter, that love will remain long after other human emotions.  I can readily accept that statement since God Himself has shown us what true love is all about.  How about it?  How is your love scale doing?  On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rank yourself?  Now, be honest!  Most of us would not get much beyond a 5, more than likely.  When we read Paul’s chapter on love and compare his words to our reality, we don’t do so well.  I would like to challenge you to discipline yourself to practice love more often.  I’m not talking about that emotion that triggers those nice feelings.  I’m talking about the love that truly accepts God’s children for who they are; that truly accepts sinners as lost human beings that need to know about His love, and that truly understands that the only love of God that many people are going to experience will come through our relationship with them.  That’s scary!  As we portray the love of God to others, they in turn, will come to know the giver of Love and will experience for themselves what His love is all about.  They then, will be able to show His love to others, and the cycle continues.  Start your cycle today, the cycle of love.

9-11, Where Were You?

September 8, 2011 by Brad Murphy

9-11, Where Were You?

What were you doing ten years ago today?  I can tell you exactly where I was and what I was doing as the terrorists unleashed their hate against this country and completely changed our way of living.  We changed from not understanding what “fear” really was all about to being fearful of “fear” itself!  Our entire world as we knew it was turned upside down and it will never be the same again.  We all know that to be true.  As time goes on we will find that there will be more and more aspects of our culture that will be torn away from us.  That is all part of the times we live in.  Jesus had some good words when He said, “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you, not as the world gives, do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, not let it be fearful.”  (John 14:27).  How about that?  Do those words apply to us today?  You had better believe that they do.  As children of God we are not to live in fear because the very Prince of Peace is with us from day to day.  He will give us of His peace, even when turmoil is all around us.

Prayer

September 6, 2011 by Brad Murphy

Prayer

Prayer!  We all have done it at some time, usually in the midst of some major crisis.  The Bible is crammed full of scriptures concerning prayer.  It is a very important scriptural topic, and here is the reason why: Prayer is the way we can communicate with God.  He speaks to us in many different ways, but we are pretty much limited in how we can speak to Him.  Prayer is the best vehicle to approach God.  Prayer should be part of our daily life.  In fact, if we are to be obedient to the Apostle Paul in his writing to the Thessalonians telling them, “Pray without ceasing.”  (1 Thessalonians 5:17.)  Now, I know that Paul does not expect us to go around mumbling a prayer under our breath!  But, I do believe that he expects us to be in an attitude of prayer during our waking moments.  We must be aware of the power of prayer and of the scope of its influence.  Please, don’t take prayer lightly, be aware of its serious nature and become a person of prayer.
