Freedom of Faith

July 3, 2022 by Brad Murphy

This sermon is part 4 of 8 in the Dear, Church 2022

DIGITAL BULLETIN 3 July 2022

Week 4 – Dear, Church | Pergamum (Revelation 2:12-17)

The Seven Letters of Revelation – He who has ears, let him hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches.

In this message, you will learn to steward your freedom of faith and not fall into freedom to sin. The culture is filled with sexual allurements that will put a stumbling block in the life of believers. Jesus says, “repent and receive the white stone invitation to His banquet feast.”

Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near.

Freedom of Faith

SCRIPTURE: Revelation 2:12-17; Revelation 1:16; 2 Kings 18:1,3-4; Numbers 22-24; Revelation 19:11-16 (ESV)

“And to the angel of the church in Pergamum write: ‘The words of him who has the sharp two-edged sword.

13 “ ‘I know where you dwell, where Satan’s throne is. Yet you hold fast my name, and you did not deny my faith even in the days of Antipas my faithful witness, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells. 14 But I have a few things against you: you have some there who hold the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, so that they might eat food sacrificed to idols and practice sexual immorality. 15 So also you have some who hold the teaching of the Nicolaitans.

Revelation 2:12-15 (ESV)
  1. Your Home Satan’s Throne
  2. Repent & Listen to God
  3. Receive the White Stone

16 Therefore repent. If not, I will come to you soon and war against them with the sword of my mouth. 17 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, with a new name written on the stone that no one knows except the one who receives it.’

Revelation 2:16-17 (ESV)

Faithful in the Face of Persecution

June 26, 2022 by Brad Murphy

This sermon is part 3 of 8 in the Dear, Church 2022

DIGITAL BULLETIN 26 June 2022

Week 3 – Dear, Church | Smyrna (Revelation 2:8-11)

The Seven Letters of Revelation – He who has ears, let him hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches.

In this message, you will learn the importance of discerning the work of Satan among those who claim to be of God. The church in Smyrna was known by God to be facing tribulation and persecution. They were encouraged to “fear not.” This scripture encourages us to be faithful in the face of death and receive the crown of life.

Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near.

Faithful in the Face of Persecution

SCRIPTURE: Revelation 2:8-11, James 2:5; Matthew 10:28; Revelation 20:11-15 (ESV)

And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write: ‘The words of the first and the last, who died and came to life.

9 “ ‘I know your tribulation and your poverty (but you are rich) and the slander of those who say that they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan. 10 Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have tribulation. Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life. 11 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. The one who conquers will not be hurt by the second death.’

Revelation 2:8-11 (ESV)
  1. God Knows your persecution
  2. Do Not Be Afraid of persecution
  3. Be Faithful through persecution

And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

The Importance of Truth & Love

June 19, 2022 by Brad Murphy

This sermon is part 2 of 8 in the Dear, Church 2022

DIGITAL BULLETIN 19 June 2022

Week 2 – Dear, Church | Ephesus (Revelation 2:1-7)

The Seven Letters of Revelation – He who has ears, let him hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches.

In this message, you will learn the importance of practicing our faith with truth and love. The Ephesians were commended for their zeal to seek truth. Jesus encouraged them for being people who tested false apostles and found them false. But, he had one thing against them. They had lost their first love. They had given up their love for God and each other.

Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near.

The Importance of Practicing Your Faith with Truth & Love

SCRIPTURE: Revelation 2:1-7; Matthew 22:34-40; John 13:34-35 (ESV)

To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: ‘The words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand, who walks among the seven golden lampstands.

2 “ ‘I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear with those who are evil, but have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and found them to be false. 3 I know you are enduring patiently and bearing up for my name’s sake, and you have not grown weary. 4 But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first. 5 Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent. 6 Yet this you have: you hate the works of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate. 7 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers I will grant to eat of the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.’

Revelation 2:1-7 (ESV)
  1. COMMENDED for Truth
  2. CORRECTED for lost Love
  3. CAUTIONED to Repent

But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together.35 And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him.36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?”37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.38 This is the great and first commandment.39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

How to Understand Revelation

SCRIPTURE: Revelation 1:1-20 (ESV)

The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his servants the things that must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, 2 who bore witness to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, even to all that he saw. 3 Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near.

4 John to the seven churches that are in Asia:
Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, 5 and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth.

To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood 6 and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. 7 Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.

8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”

Revelation 1:1-8 (ESV)
  1. This book PREDICTS the Future
  2. This book PROMISES a Blessing
  3. This book PORTRAYS a Person
  4. This book PRODUCES a Response

I, John, your brother and partner in the tribulation and the kingdom and the patient endurance that are in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos on account of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. 10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet 11 saying, “Write what you see in a book and send it to the seven churches, to Ephesus and to Smyrna and to Pergamum and to Thyatira and to Sardis and to Philadelphia and to Laodicea.”
12 Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking to me, and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands, 13 and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden sash around his chest. 14 The hairs of his head were white, like white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire, 15 his feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, and his voice was like the roar of many waters. 16 In his right hand he held seven stars, from his mouth came a sharp two-edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining in full strength.
