Greater Faith, Part 1

March 15, 2017 by Brad Murphy

We all face different struggles and sorrows. We work to find leaders, religious institutions, and spiritual experiences that will give us hope. We live in a time of restlessness and anxiety. The writer of the book of Hebrews encourages us to find Jesus and experience Him because He is Greater.

https://eaglelifechurch.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/2017-03-12-2.mp3
1. Let us DRAW NEAR | Hebrews 10:22
Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

>In what ways is your heart cleansed by Jesus blood and our body washed with living water? Find     examples in 26-39
>What are some ways people draw near to God?

2. Let us HOLD FAST | Hebrews 10:23
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.

>What does the author say is the reason we can hold onto hope? Find examples in 26-39.
>What other things do people put their hope in? Do they satisfy?
>How can a person hold on to Gospel Hope?

3. Let us STIR UP | Hebrews 10:24-25
And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

>In what ways do you think people miss out on experiencing true love?
>When did you experience authentic love? Compile a list of what authentic love looks like.
>What can we do, as a church, to overcome these obstacles and express love to one another and our community? Can you find examples in 26-39?

reBUILD in the Face of Fear

March 18, 2016 by Brad Murphy

Fear can be crippling. If the enemy of your soul can cause you to live in a spirit of fear, then he will be able to stop you from reBUILDING your faith, your heart, your marriage, your family, or your community.

There are three typical responses to fear:

  • Flight
  • Fight
  • Freeze

In today’s message from Nehemiah 6:5-14, we learn a Godly approach for handling public & private attacks of fear.

Track #1 Chi Alpha Missions Moment

Track #2 Message from Nehemiah 6:5-14

FEAR BRINGS ________DISOBEDIENCE__________

DISOBEDIENCE IS ____UNBELIEF____ THAT FAILS TO ___LOVE____ GOD.

“There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.”
– 1 John 4:18

 1.  ______Public______ Attack | Nehemiah 6:5-9

Matthew 10:28-33 | 2 Timothy 1:7

Discussion Questions |

  • Read Sanballat’s Letter Again
  • What three accusations are charged against Nehemiah?
  • How could they each cause fear?
  • How is this similar to your experience with attacks & fear?

2. ____Private____ Attack | Nehemiah 6:10-14

2 Timothy 1:12

Discussion Questions |

  • Read the conversation in Nehemiah 6:10-13
  • In what ways was Shemiah’s suggestion disobedient?
  • How can you see these kinds of traps coming and avoid them?
  • In what ways do peoples fear lead them to sin against God?

LOVE BRINGS _____SURRENDER________.

SURRENDER IS BELIEF THAT LEAVES THE _____OUTCOME_____ UP TO GOD.

Guide to Truth | Abide: Live Like Jesus 21

February 8, 2015 by Brad Murphy

What kind of tree are you?  Are you and orange tree? Apple tree? Banana tree?

Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.
– John 15:4 (ESV)

You know a tree by it’s fruit.

Abide in me!  This summarizes the final teachings of Jesus in his last few hours on earth.

As we continue to study the book of John on Sunday mornings, we have transitioned into Jesus teaching on his enduring presence.  As we live in his Spirit we will bear his fruit.
