The Spirit of Comfort

June 7, 2020 by Brad Murphy

In today’s message, you will further understand the role of the third person of the trinity, the Holy Spirit. You will learn that He is sent by the Father to comfort and help you in times of trouble. He is with you when you anguish in prayer. He encourages you to understand and accomplish the will of God.

And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit,

Ephesians 5:18 (ESV)

“These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

John 14:25-27 (ESV)

The Spirit of Comfort | Sermon Outline

Ephesians 5:8-20 | Be Filled with the Spirit

  1. Jesus promised a COMFORTER | John 14:15-29 (25-27) |
  2. The Holy Spirit helps us in our WEAKNESS | Romans 8:26-27 |
  3. The Holy Spirit helps us LIVE GOD’S PURPOSE | Romans 8:27-28 |

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

Romans 8:26-28 (ESV)
