More to the Story. Uncovering the meaning of Jesus' parables.

This sermon is part 9 of 13 in the More to the Story

Week 9 – More the Story

SERMON & DIGITAL BULLETIN 06 August 2023, 10:30 a.m.

More to the Story. Uncovering the meaning of Jesus' parables.
And he said to them, “To you has been given the secret of the kingdom of God, but for those outside everything is in parables” – Mark 4:11

Today @EagleLifeChurch, we continue our summer sermon series, “More to the Story.”

In this 13-week sermon series, you will learn the message behind the parables of Jesus in Matthew, Mark, and Luke. We will read one of Jesus’ parables each week, consider its context, and apply the lesson to our lives.

And when he was alone, those around him with the twelve asked him about the parables. 11 And he said to them, “To you has been given the secret of the kingdom of God, but for those outside everything is in parables, 12 so that

“ ‘they may indeed see but not perceive,
and may indeed hear but not understand,
lest they should turn and be forgiven.’ ”

Mark 4:10-12 (ESV)

Today, we realize our invitation to have a relationship with Jesus through the marriage between the church and the Son.

This parable asks the question, “Are You Coming?

Are You Using Your Talents?

SCRIPTURE: Luke 11:1-13; Matthew 6:5-15 (ESV)

Here is another story Jesus told: “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a farmer who planted good seed in his field. 25 But that night as the workers slept, his enemy came and planted weeds among the wheat, then slipped away.

Matthew 13:24-35 (NLT)
  1. We Want a Timetable But the Master Wants to Give us a Mindset
  2. Faith is the Currency of the Kingdom
  3. Watchfulness Does Not Mean Idleness

14 “For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them. 15 And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey. 16 Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents. 17 And likewise he who had received two gained two more also. 18 But he who had received one went and dug in the ground, and hid his lord’s money. 19 After a long time the lord of those servants came and settled accounts with them. 20 “So he who had received five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, ‘Lord, you delivered to me five talents; look, I have gained five more talents besides them.’ 21 His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’ 22 He also who had received two talents came and said, ‘Lord, you delivered to me two talents; look, I have gained two more talents besides them.’ 23 His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’ 24 “Then he who had received the one talent came and said, ‘Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25 And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours.’ 26 “But his lord answered and said to him, ‘You wicked and lazy servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed. 27 So you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with interest. 28 Therefore take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents. 29 ‘For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. 30 And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

Matthew 25:14-30 (NKJV)

The Spirit of Glory

May 28, 2023 by Guest Speaker

This sermon is part 7 of 8 in the Living Hope

Week 7 – Living Hope Series

SERMON & DIGITAL BULLETIN 28 May 2023, 10:30 a.m.

“Be Born Again to a Living Hope”

Today @EagleLifeChurch, we continue our Easter to Pentecost series “Living Hope.”

This is week 7 in the 8-week series. This series focuses on experiencing HOPE in the midst of life’s difficulties and struggles. In our culture, people are subjected to (surrounded by) dying hope. Hope has been replaced with hurt, abuse, trauma, lies, and despair.

During this series, we learn to find our LIVING HOPE in a savior who has struggled and suffered, who has been sabotaged and betrayed, who was beaten and buried, but he claimed the final victory over dying-hope by rising from the grave and inviting us to experience living hope.

In today’s message, you will learn to keep faith in the midst of suffering because the Spirit of Glory and of God rests on you.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead

The Spirit of Glory

SCRIPTURE: 1 Peter 3:13-17; 1 Peter 4:12-19; John 16:33; Acts 12:1-5 (ESV)

Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. 13 But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. 14 If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. 15 If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler. 16 However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name. 17 For it is time for judgment to begin with God’s household; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God? 18 And,

“If it is hard for the righteous to be saved,
what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?”

19 So then, those who suffer according to God’s will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.

1 Peter 4:12-19 (ESV, emphasis added)
  1. The Reality of Suffering in a Fallen World
  2. Don’t Lose Faith!
  3. How Can We Make it Through?

It was about this time that King Herod arrested some who belonged to the church, intending to persecute them. 2 He had James, the brother of John, put to death with the sword. 3 When he saw that this met with approval among the Jews, he proceeded to seize Peter also. This happened during the Festival of Unleavened Bread. 4 After arresting him, he put him in prison, handing him over to be guarded by four squads of four soldiers each. Herod intended to bring him out for public trial after the Passover.
5 So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him.
