Faith to Persevere

SCRIPTURE: Ephesians 2.8-10; Romans 8.18; Romans 5.3-5; Galatians 6:9 (ESV)

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.

Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance,4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. And a man lame from birth And more than ever believers were added to the Lord, multitudes of both men and women, 15 so that they even carried out the sick into the streets and laid them on cots and mats, that as Peter came by at least his shadow might fall on some of them.

Week 8: Filled with The Spirit

In today’s message, you will gain a deeper understanding of the third person of the trinity, the Holy Spirit. You will learn that He gives gifts to the church through the various members of the body. The Bible calls this the Gifts of the Spirit

Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.

Endurance

In Sunday’s sermon Pastor John encouraged us to endure through hardships and persecution in our walk with God and reminded us of God’s faithfulness to us in all seasons.

Enduring through hardships

 Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No soldier gets entangled in civilian pursuits since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him.  An athlete is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. It is the hard-working farmer who ought to have the first share of the crops. Think over what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything. 2 Timothy 2:3-7

Enduring through persecution

Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, the offspring of David, as preached in my gospel,  for which I am suffering, bound with chains as a criminal. But the word of God is not bound!  Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. The saying is trustworthy, for:

If we have died with him, we will also live with him;
 if we endure, we will also reign with him;
if we deny him, he also will deny us; 2 Tim 2:8-12

The Faithfulness of the Lord is enduring 

If we are faithless, he remains faithful for he cannot deny himself. 2 Tim 2:13
