Joy for the House of the Lord

January 7, 2024 by Brad Murphy

This sermon is part 2 of 13 in the Ascend Series

Today @EagleLifeChurch, we continue our new year sermon series, “Ascend.”🪜🧗🏼

🎉The biggest thing on everyone’s mind in the new year is new year’s resolutions and the changes we want to make in ourselves. But it is difficult to make this change because of the sin in this world and the sin in ourselves.

Don’t give up hope! 🕊️

2️⃣4️⃣This year, we invite you to ascend above the evil in this world and in ourselves. From psalms 120-134, we will explore the meaning of the psalms of ascent.

From the strong contrasts drawn between the outside world and Jerusalem by the pilgrims ascending to the holy city, we will find hope in our heavenly Father who shields us from evil and destruction.

Today’s message teaches us about the present, past, and future promise of God’s peace and prosperity for the people of His house. You will learn to find joy, experience community, and live changed. As the New Testament teaches, “on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” (Matt 16:18)

My Keeper of Peace

December 31, 2023 by Brad Murphy

This sermon is part 1 of 13 in the Ascend Series

Today @EagleLifeChurch, we start our new year sermon series, “Ascend.” 📅

The biggest thing on everyone’s mind in the new year is new year’s resolutions and the changes we want to make in ourselves. But it is difficult to make this change because of the sin in this world and the sin in ourselves.

Don’t give up hope!

This year, we invite you to ascend above the evil in this world and in ourselves. From psalms 120-134, we will explore the meaning of the psalms of ascent.

From the strong contrasts drawn between the outside world and Jerusalem by the pilgrims ascending to the holy city, we will find hope in our heavenly Father who shields us from evil and destruction.

Today’s message teaches us about God as our peacekeeper in this dangerous and unstable world. Today we ascend to this understanding: that God is our keeper of peace.

Lead with Hope

June 4, 2023 by Brad Murphy

This sermon is part 8 of 8 in the Living Hope

Week 8 – Living Hope Series

SERMON & DIGITAL BULLETIN 04 June 2023, 10:30 a.m.

“Be Born Again to a Living Hope”

Today @EagleLifeChurch, we continue our Easter to Pentecost series “Living Hope.”

This is the last message in the series. This series focuses on experiencing HOPE in the midst of life’s difficulties and struggles. In our culture, people are subjected to (surrounded by) dying hope. Hope has been replaced with hurt, abuse, trauma, lies, and despair.

During this series, we learn to find our LIVING HOPE in a savior who has struggled and suffered, who has been sabotaged and betrayed, who was beaten and buried, but he claimed the final victory over dying-hope by rising from the grave and inviting us to experience living hope.

In today’s message, you will learn how to lead others as a humble example of hopeful trust in God. Our generation needs a community of faith who bring hope to the suffering in our world.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead

Lead with Hope

SCRIPTURE: 1 Peter 5:1-14, John 21:15-19, 1 Timothy 6:5, 1 Corinthians 9:25 (ESV)

So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a partaker in the glory that is going to be revealed: 2 shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; 3 not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. 4 And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory. 5 Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you,

1 Peter 5:1-6 (ESV)
  1. Be an EXAMPLE
  2. Be HUMBLE
  3. TRUST God

casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. 10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

1 Peter 5:7-11 (ESV)

The Spirit of Glory

SCRIPTURE: 1 Peter 3:13-17; 1 Peter 4:12-19; John 16:33; Acts 12:1-5 (ESV)

Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. 13 But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. 14 If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. 15 If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler. 16 However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name. 17 For it is time for judgment to begin with God’s household; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God? 18 And,

“If it is hard for the righteous to be saved,
what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?”

19 So then, those who suffer according to God’s will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.

1 Peter 4:12-19 (ESV, emphasis added)
  1. The Reality of Suffering in a Fallen World
  2. Don’t Lose Faith!
  3. How Can We Make it Through?

It was about this time that King Herod arrested some who belonged to the church, intending to persecute them. 2 He had James, the brother of John, put to death with the sword. 3 When he saw that this met with approval among the Jews, he proceeded to seize Peter also. This happened during the Festival of Unleavened Bread. 4 After arresting him, he put him in prison, handing him over to be guarded by four squads of four soldiers each. Herod intended to bring him out for public trial after the Passover.
5 So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him.

Acts 12:1-5 (Emphasis Added)
