This sermon is part 1 of 9 in the Everyday Saints

DIGITAL BULLETIN 18 September 2022

Week 1 – Everyday Saints

Everyday Saints, Colossians, Current Series
Faith is lived between Sundays. Join us for a series in Colossians and learn to become an Everyday Saint.

In this message, Pastor Brad introduces the series “Everyday Saints,” from the New Testament book Colossians. In this series, you will learn how to discover your identity in Christ and live your faith in a broken world.

Life-in-Christ is lived between Sundays, in everyday life. Learn how to respond to culture, friends, and family with the grace, peace, love, and hope of Jesus Christ.

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.

Know Who You Are

SCRIPTURE: Colossians 1:1-14; 1 Corinthians 15:1-8 (ESV)

Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother,

2 To the saints and faithful brothers in Christ at Colossae: Grace to you and peace from God our Father.

3 We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, 4 since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all the saints, 5 because of the hope laid up for you in heaven. Of this you have heard before in the word of the truth, the gospel, 6 which has come to you, as indeed in the whole world it is bearing fruit and increasing—as it also does among you, since the day you heard it and understood the grace of God in truth, 7 just as you learned it from Epaphras our beloved fellow servant. He is a faithful minister of Christ on your behalf 8 and has made known to us your love in the Spirit.

Colossians 1:1-8 (ESV)
  1. You are filled with FAITH
  2. You are filled with LOVE
  3. You are filled with HOPE

And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10 so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy; 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. 13 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Colossians 1:9-14 (ESV)

“How to Change the World” Life-Changing Way, Part 2

SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 4:16; John 3:16; Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 12:30-31; 2 Corinthians 5:17-21; Acts 2:42-47; Ephesians 5:17-21 (ESV)

And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.

Acts 2:42-47 (ESV)
  1. CONNECT (fellowship)
  2. GROW (discipleship)
  3. SERVE (ministry)
  4. GO (evangelism / missions / outreach)
  5. WORSHIP (worship)

“Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, 19 addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, 20 giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 21 submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.”

Ephesians 5:17-21 (ESV)

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.

How to Experience Jesus Through the Gifts of the Spirit, Part 2

SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 4:16; John 3:16; Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 12:30-31; Romans 1:11-12; Romans 12:3-8; 1 Peter 4:8-11; 1 Corinthians 12:4-26; Ephesians 4:11-16 (ESV)

It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12 to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

Ephesians 4:11-13, emphasis added (ESV)

Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. 15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.

Ephesians 4:14-16 (ESV)
