Infuse | Joy

September 8, 2013 by Brad Murphy

This sermon is part 2 of 9 in the Infuse | Galatians 5:22-24

We are compelled by God’s LOVE and the FREEDOM offered in Jesus to infuse our relationships with the mind of Christ.  As the Spirit of God directs our life, we take on the CHARACTER of the Spirit.  This Fall we will ask God to INFUSE in us the love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control of Christ through the Holy Spirit!

Restore Joy!

The fact is always obvious much too late, but the most singular difference between happiness and joy is that happiness is a solid and joy a liquid.
-J.D. Salinger

Are quotes like this an excuse to be grumpy Christ followers.  I think so.

“I don’t have to be happy right now, but I have the joy of God.”  Really?

Aren’t joyful people happy?  Isn’t that why you say they are joyful?

You can be one of those people.

Pastor Brad searched the New Testament and found that happy, joy, and blessedness are used interchangeably.  The Joy God gives, by His Spirit, will help you be a happy person.  Listen to this encouraging message to discover how to Restore Joy, the Real McCoy.

Taking Victory Over Weeds

June 29, 2012 by Brad Murphy

I continue to be in wonder of our God who gives victory, peace, and assurance in the midst of trouble.  Jesus declares to us in John 16:33 , “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”  Later, in Revelation 12:11 He says about the saints gathered at the victory over Satan, “They overcame the accuser by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.”

In Mark 7 we read, “Jesus…taught them many things by parables, and in his teaching said: ‘Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain… Like seed sown among thorns, some people hear the word; but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.’”

We cannot shrink back from trouble.  We must advance against our opposition, against the deceitfulness of wealth and the desire of earthly things, to bring down the enemy.  Jesus has given you authority here on earth to have victory.  Take up the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God and use it today.

The Holy Spirit can help us in any and all decisions

October 19, 2011 by Brad Murphy

The Holy Spirit can help us in any and all decisions

At times it seems so difficult to know what God’s will might be in a given situation.  If we are in fellowship with Him, it should not be all that difficult!  Allow me to explain:  The Holy Spirit lives within the life of every Christian to not only encourage and strengthen the Christian, but also to lead that Christian into all truth. We need to create within ourselves a process where we allow the Holy Spirit to speak to us.  He might do so out of a series of circumstances, or maybe the decision we must make is just a common-sense decision. The Holy Spirit can help us in any and all decisions.  As we allow Him to speak into our lives, He will know how to speak to each of us.  He speaks to me in one way and will probably speak to you in a different way. We are different and He will communicate with each of us in a different way.  When He does speak to us we should be attentive and obedient to His urgings.  If we continually disobey or ignore His voice, there will come a time when we will no longer hear His voice.  As we are attentive and obey He will direct us in making decisions that will bring Him honor and will help us in our spiritual walk and our everyday life.
