Week 14 “Joshua: The Promise You Can Trust”
In today’s message, you will learn how God has promised us a relationship that we can trust.
But our human relationships are often tattered because of broken promises and shattered trust.
How do we negotiate the inevitable conflicts in human relationships?
In Joshua 22, we learn how to reconcile to God and to others. This parallels Jesus’ instructions in Matthew 18 about what to do when someone sins against you.
This is the “THE PROMISE YOU CAN TRUST.”
Be strong and courageous, for you shall cause this people to inherit the land that I swore to their fathers to give them.

But take careful heed to do the commandment and the law which Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, to love the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways, to keep His commandments, to hold fast to Him, and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul.

HOW TO RELATE TO GOD
- Love the Lord your God
- Walk in His Commandments
- Hold Fast to Him
And when they came to the region of the Jordan which is in the land of Canaan, the children of Reuben, the children of Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh built an altar there by the Jordan—a great, impressive altar.

HOW TO RELATE TO OTHERS
Now when Phinehas the priest and the rulers of the congregation, the heads of the divisions of Israel who were with him, heard the words that the children of Reuben, the children of Gad, and the children of Manasseh spoke, it pleased them. 31 Then Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest said to the children of Reuben, the children of Gad, and the children of Manasseh, “This day we perceive that the Lord is among us, because you have not committed this treachery against the Lord. Now you have delivered the children of Israel out of the hand of the Lord.”

- Go to them one-on-one
- Try a mediator
- Bring it before the church
“If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. 16 But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every charge may be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses. 17 If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.

All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
