reBUILD in the Face of Distraction

March 6, 2016 by Brad Murphy

The story of Nehemiah is the story of a person called by God, who knew the mission, and understood the honor that his life could bring to God. In the process God used Nehemiah to reBUILD a city and inspire a people.

When God puts it in your heart to reBUILD your life, your family, or your community, you can be sure that the enemy of God will use anything and everything he can to stop you from renewing hope. In today’s sermon from Nehemiah 6:1-4, we learn about the enemy’s tactic of distraction and how to stand firm.

And I sent messengers to them, saying,
“I am doing a great work and I cannot come down.
Why should the work stop while I leave it and come down to you?” – Nehemiah 6:3

 Distraction brings ___confusion________

Confusion is ____unbelief_____ that fails to ____prioritize______ God.

  1. Not every ____invitation______ is a reason for _____celebration______ | Nehemiah 6:1-3

Identify Distractions by Asking Four Questions:

  • Who is inviting you?
  • Where are they inviting you?
  • What is there motivation?
  • Why should the work you are doing stop? Or should it?

1 Chronicles 8:12 | 2 Corinthians 11:12-15 | 1 Peter 5:8-9 | John 10:10 | Matthew 7:13-14

  1. Distraction is a ____constant____ enemy | Nehemiah 6:4

Luke 9:51-56 | Hebrews 12:1-3 | James 1:2-18 | Romans 5:3-5

DETERMINATION BRINGS ___clarity___. CLARITY IS BELIEF

Brightest in the Dark

March 10, 2014 by Brad Murphy

This sermon is part 4 of 4 in the Foc|US: Vision for Life

Light the Way.

God has given us a vision to build a community of faith, who follow Jesus and tend to the mission of God: Light the Way, Learn the Truth, Love the Life.

This week Pastor Bob, directs our attention on Christ who is the light of the world.  You will be encouraged to find a place outside the church to minister and shine the light.

Brightest in the Dark

  • We make every effort to take the light of Jesus out of our church building and into the darkest places in our community. We are engaged in our community, through ministries of faith and compassion, telling the story of eternal life in Christ. Our light will shine in dark places so that the God colors of our world will be seen.
  • Study it! Genesis 1:1-5; John 1:1-13; 2 Corinthians 4:1-6; Matthew 5:14-16; Acts 1:8; Luke 15:1-7 & Matthew 18:10-14

No Religious Expectations

January 28, 2014 by Brad Murphy

This sermon is part 3 of 4 in the Foc|US: Vision for Life

Light the Way.

God has given us a vision to build a community of faith, who follow Jesus and tend to the mission of God: Light the Way, Learn the Truth, Love the Life.

This week Pastor John, asks is the church a Country Club or Hospital.  As he teaches from Luke 6, we uncover one of Jesus stiffest enemies, RELIGION.  As a church family, one of our values is to eliminate religious expectations and encourage grace in Jesus Christ.

No Religious Expectations

  • The title, “Christian,” has come to describe either a religion or a product, that marketing executives are trying to sell.  Christ did not come to start a religion or a business.  Therefore, Eagle LifeChurch is not marketing a religion.   Our goal is to shine the spotlight on Jesus Christ, who initiated a relational, incarnation, movement of grace and servant love.
  • Study it! Matthew 23; Mark 7:1-23; Mark 12:38-20 & Luke 20:45-47; Matthew 6:1-18; Hebrews 4:14-5:1
